Broadlink Product Update 2019 : Hands On With The New Smart Home Products and App

published: 2019-04-06 09:00:05

I sat down to lunch with Broadlink in London to discuss their upcoming new app and products and hopefully not get punched in the face for my previous videos, spoiler alert: I’m still just as pretty as I was before. I got my hands on the tiny new RM Blackbean mini (The RM4 mini), We discussed their new Broadlink RM pro (The RM4 pro), I took away one of their new Smart bulbs (the Broadlink SB1) and we’ve been chatting since about their upcoming dimmable plug socket (The SP4). This video is a breakdown of what is to come, but following this video there will be more indepth reviews of all of these products including their upcoming zero-configuration (Fastcon) technology and “NoApp” solutions which will work directly with Alexa and Google Home without any need for the Broadlink app at all! Speaking of apps, there is a new one on the way and this video will give you a sneak preview in advance of beta testing. Details of how to join the beta test for the new Broadlink app will be available in an upcoming video.

Also in this video is the answer to why Broadlink decided to change the name of the “Broadlink Smart Home Skill”

The Broadlink guys turned out to be absolutely lovely, very complimentary and more open than ever before to listen to feedback on their old products and their new products for 2019. Their Vice President is very candid with me and quick to respond, so I’m looking for feedback on any current issues so I can help them get the attention they need, please hit me up in the comments with any known issues you are experiencing so I can put together a list, I’m fairly confident there are still problems with the TC2 light switch, but I could be wrong!

  4. Yup the socket will indeed turn on at sunset and off at sunrise, bit annoying if you want a lamp to turn off before sunrise so you need a routine to do that part.

  10. It is reassuring to know that Broadlink are working hard at improving their brilliant, if somewhat flawed product.

Keep up the fine work Paul – with a little encouragement/guidance from you I am sure that they will get there!

  11. Paul, can you please do a video on “cord cutting”. And android box that can install APP’s/APK’s & play live Freesat/Freeview. And how to control it by Alexa…..??? So many confusing videos out there with no definitive answer. Basically the Fire TV Recast…. but for us in the UK. 😁

  16. IFTTT support is long overdue, we've been asking for that since the days before Alexa when we were using Vox Commando Paul for voice control. lol. Did you ever retire ALEXAnder from voice controlling your home?

  18. I recently restarted everything with a new account, the EU app and skill, added 10 lamps and none were discovered by the Echo. After hours of #!=&£@ around I gave up. However 10 days later and Alexa has 10 new devices. No idea what happened but lamps are now there. I tried user defined which didn't work at the time

  19. Lol do you run when look in the mirror? My Alexa said evacuate when I open my email… LOL I'm glad that you had a good meeting with them. I'm glad they're finally doing something I hope they actually get something done correctly! They've got great ideas but getting it to work. As Google is wonderful in other places I have really good luck with Alexa. And I find your work excellent! And if you're going to go all the way to London make sure your wife gets you a new harness and Leash. All the best from the USA! Be good and be great to you and your family

  21. I have a couple RM+ and I really like them a lot. The worst aspect of them? IHC! I can't even leave the app installed because it likes to hang in the background, then all of a sudden my battery is draining like mad and my phone is nice and toasty warm. Looking forward to a new app!

  22. a fine informative video as always sir. I do still need you to source an affordable automated curtain rail though. I''ve read that ikea have jumped on this, well, roller blinds, but i have those in the bedroom so it's a start, and they are trialling them in Germany, prices starting circa £60, hopefully these will make it to blighty.
